The project was born back in 2009/2010 as an experiment with the early versions of the WebSocket protocol. Back then the support for websockets was very sparse and the protocol state was still in drafts hybi00 and hixie76.
In 2010 the development took of and the team contributed to the project spending countless hours developing during weekends and nights.
Early on the team decided to build their own plugin framework to have full control and be able to run on any Mono/.NET-host. Looking back, this was probably the most important decision for the success of the framework.
The initial idea was to build a websocket server, but the plugin framework changed that. Thanks to the plugin framework XSockets could stop being a simple websocket server and instead be fully modular. The framework could now connect anything and still use the same business logic regardless of what client the developer choose to connect.

Besides the conferences there has also been many meetups over the years.
Team XSockets Sweden AB was founded in early 2014. About 4 years after the start of the project the team decided to go commercial. During the first year the company got customers on every continent!
In late 2014 Team XSockets got the first official partner (Acando in Stockholm, Sweden). The purpose of the partnership is to be able to offer big customers help with the development process.
